I think that you did a wonderful job with this video. This flowed really well and you really got some wonderful images that goes along. I know you had a hard time pulling the voice, but that came out really well. It is a little grainy but it still works out and I heard him just fine.
The audio was way better this time around and I like how you blended the audio with b-roll footage so the cuts seemed more natural. Not sure if you should keep the song he sings in the beginning or not since I think it's kind of a strange introduction to your story, but that's your call. The song does work well for the ending, though. Overall excellent work!
I thought you did an awesome job with it, the story flowed well, the interview was well constructed and you thoroughly covered the story in a clear manner. This was a tough story to cover and I feel like you did a great job telling it impartially and with great perspective from Peter's view point.
Hi Vinny, I think you did an awesome job. The only negative thing I noticed was a lull in the movement of the t-hall display- it seems to move a bit at first but then stops and doesn't flow as nicely. Still, that was the only thing I felt took away from the video and it was such a slight error that it really shouldn't impact your grade or the success of the video. Your interviews with Welch were loud and clear and you did a great job selecting which parts to keep and which to take out. After viewing your video, I feel well-informed on the subject and I feel that the way you incorporated so many different multimedia elements and were able to get them to flow together so nicely really made the project what it is. Excellent job!
Overall, the video is very good and presents the issue well. I really like the interplay you had between the images and background audio; I think it was very effective. A few of the captions explaining the petition etc were slightly confusing, so I think you could even break up Welch's audio with some plain text slides throughout that explain the issues. The only other thing I might like to see more of is actual video/audio of Welch in class, if you have any good clips from that. I think that would add a lot and break up some of the interview. It would be really cool especially if he talks to students in class and gets responses from them on the issue that you could film.
Vinny, I think you did a really awesome job on your video! I think the addition of him talking with the students works really well. That was probably my favorite part because it shows he is still a person and he shouldn't be treated this way. Also, the still picture that you added of Welch and his partner was great. It worked really well in the place that it was in too. I think it made just the right point in the spot that it was in!
Nice job! I thought it was really well done, and there are only a few small things that I caught: I think it would have been nice to actually read the petition that Peter mentioned. We only got a picture of it and there was no way to read its contents. If there's no way to zoom in on it I would just take it out completely since it distracts the viewer. I also thought that Peter giving his story about his partner was necessary, but out of place in the video. Maybe try putting it in the beginning and see how it looks?
Other than that really good job on this. I really liked how you showed the article from TNH and the trustees. It gave the reader a firmer grasp on what is being said.
A well put together video. You did a good job of showing his story, what he's fighting for and who he is as a person. My one suggestion would be to interview some students who Welch has spoken to about how same-sex couples are being discriminated against to get their perspective on the matter.
1. I thought the re-organization worked really well for your final project, it flowed naturally and was a logical progression from start to finish
2. The footage of Peter interacting with students really helped me understand his connections with students and how active he is in the student body/community (MUB, classrooms)
3. Integrating photos and video clips into the interview footage helped to break up those longer audio clips with images that related back to the audio. This kept the video interesting and on pace for viewers.
Great job, shows how little things become transformative in a project.
Singing at the beginning and end really works well to frame the story.
Sound overlaps are really good, very smooth, no jerkiness.
Much better sense of the narrative this time around.
Though the inference was there, I would have like to hear that the administration wouldn't comment… "That was just a copout" deserves comment. "There isn't anyone I can say here that I'm happy about" also deserves comment.
Emotionally the story is a little flat. I wonder if there is a way to ratchet up the emotion a little.
I wish I saw more of them together…earlier might give us better context and help us be more emotionally invested in the project.
"I'm just trying to live my values" (or whatever he said) was really strong. Obviously you had good interviews and you have a good ear for quotes.
Hey Vin! Nice job. I liked that you opened and closed the piece with Peter singing. The words felt more meaningful at the end, after understanding his fight. I think you supplemented your A-roll with B-roll well, especially the still shots of bulletin boards and "Ally" stickers, etc. Also, the transition between Peter's frustration with the university and respect for its students was well done. I liked the inclusion of the TNH front page. One minor detail that distracted me was the clock in the corner of the office - it was a good location, but I found myself watching the minute hand jump around, back and forth in time. Also, I would have liked to see Peter's partner much earlier and heard about their relationship from the beginning - it would have made their fight that much more personal. I felt I was thrown right into the heart of the issue and needed a little more introduction. Overall, some great quotes and I really felt like I could sympathize with Peter.
Vin, thanks for the great video and sharing this topic with us. I undoubtedly learned quite a bit surrounding this subject- so you did your job! I would like to see cutaways to still images or video at the times when the audio is noticeably choppy. This only occurs a few times but I think by having a break from the interview to a still image may make it less noticeable if you have to resort to that. I would also like to hear a few more voices- I understand you have been having some trouble with getting a response from Mark Rubinstein but try to reach out to other high ranking people at the university. You have a few weeks before this is 'officially' due so give it a try! I think it would make your video more credible to try to have another voice to this. I definitely liked the clips you had from the TNH as well as from the laws. I would like to hear the actual response of students/staff/faculty of the petition. How many people signed it? What did people say to him about it? I think choosing a topic like this is definitely not taking the easy way out and this needs to be talked about, great job overall Vin! :)
Good job! Your transitions and audio work was impressive, and I thought you did a great job of really showing who he is and what his message is. The only suggestion I would give you is that it was hard to read the petition that he gave to UNH it was kind of small. Other than that great job!
Of course your audio is great! Would had likes zoom in on petition. Loved the intro with the song. Liked the info and pics of him and his husband.
